Benefits of Recycling Oil
- Used motor oil is insoluble, persistent, and can contain toxic chemicals and heavy metals & it’s slow to degrade.
- It is estimated that 3.8l of used oil can corrupt the taste of 3,800,000l of drinking water and 50–100ppm of used oil can negatively affect the wastewater treatment processes (Pramanik, 2003).
- The American Petroleum Institute has concluded that it takes 50-85 percent less energy to produce a lubricant through re-refining used oil than to produce that same volume by refining virgin crude.
- It takes 159 l of crude oil, but only 3.78l of used oil to produce 2.36l of new, high-quality lubricating oil
- 1l of used oil processed for fuel contains about 39MJ of energy.
